Austin is home to three species of aquatic salamanders: The Barton Springs Salamander, Austin Blind Salamander, and Jollyville Plateau Salamander. Two of these salamanders (Barton Springs and Austin Blind Salamander) are found only in the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer. Under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, all of these species are either endangered or threatened.
